Mines Road will be closed Monday 9/30- Saturday October 19
The crew repairing the road at mile 6.5 worked tirelessly around the clock and was able to reopen the road only after 5 days.
We’re thrilled! But if you haven’t explored HWY 130, it’s still a great route 🙂
The Alameda County Public Works Agency will be repairing Mines Road at mile 6.5 and the road will be closed all day everyday. During those 3 weeks is a great opportunity to explore Highway 130.
Coming east from San Jose
From Alum Rock Avenue you can climb up Mt. Hamilton and stop for sweeping views of the Bay at the Lick Observatory. The low grade and switch backs are great for cyclists.
Coming west from Highway 5
From Highway 5, exit 434 Diablo Grande Parkway, don’t let the stunning outcroppings distract you because the right turn onto Highway 130 comes up quick! You will follow Del Puerto Creek up into the San Antonio valley. The exposed mantle captures our ancient geological and recent history with abandoned mines, fossils and petroglyphs.
You can also stop for water at Adobe Springs or stretch your legs at Frank Raines Park with hiking trails and a playground.

We will still be open during this road closure so stop by on Saturdays 10-2 and Sundays 11-3. We look forward to hearing about everyone’s adventures on Hwy 130!
